Welcome to Turnberry Public School
Welcome to Turnberry Central Public School! We are a small rural school located in the northern region of Huron County in Ontario, Canada. We boast eight acres of beautiful property just outside the town of Wingham in Morris-Turnberry Township.
There are approximately one hundred and thirty-five students who attend our school, ranging in ages from Junior Kindergarten to Grade Eight. All of our students travel to and from school on a bus. We have six homeroom classrooms at Turnberry.
Our staff is very dedicated in our efforts to provide positive academic and social experiences for our students. Our mission reflects this philosophy clearly: “Turnberry Central Public School creates and maintains an environment challenging each child to develop the knowledge, skills and respect for successful living and learning”.
There are numerous extra curricular activities for our students to participate in. Our staff recognizes the importance of students being given opportunities outside of the classroom so support activities such as soccer, volleyball, basketball, free throw, floor hockey, Student Parliament, chess club, and yearbook club. Our Student Parliament group organizes dances, Free the Children fund raisers, and spirit days such as wacky hair day, pyjama day, and ‘er’ day (where students and staff dress up as someone ending in ‘er’).
In our commitment to enhance Turnberry’s school culture, we have adopted the Virtue’s Program. Following our board’s ten character attributes, each month we focus on a different virtue. We read stories and do activities to support the monthly virtue and hold assemblies to recognize those who have done an excellent job of exemplifying the virtue.
We have a small, but dedicated, School Council that meets four times each school year. Over the last two years, this group has worked hard to begin and maintain a snack program for our students that is delivered three mornings each week. This group recognizes the importance of healthy eating to school success and has been committed to providing this to our students. This group also fund raises to support classroom activities.
Thank you for visiting our website. Please feel free to call us if you require further information.
